ISAC 2017: PURNIMA SEALS TRIPLE GOLD MEDALS
|Purnima Gunaratne, who is famous for her high jumping abilities in the schools athletics arena, sealed triple gold medals with two new meet records at the International Schools Athletic Championship continued for the second day at Diyagama yesterday.
Purnima from Leeds International School Panadura cleared 1.75m in her pet event, the high jump for girls under-20 category, to set a new meet record, after leaping 5.69m in the long jump to set another meet record. The youngster who has international experience under her belt, including Junior South Asian Gold medal, then clocked 15.70 seconds in the 100m hurdle to win the third Gold medal.
Gateway sprinter Natali Malpana clocked an impressive 25.2 seconds in the 200m for girls under-19 to set a new meet record while, Sharmila Jan also from Gateway College set a new meet record in girls under-19 long jump with a leap of 5.35m.
Gateway’s thrower Dehali Seneviratne set a new meet record with 8.35m performance in the girls under-15 Shot Put event. Gateway’s under-17 girls 4x100m relay team comprising of Sadeepa Henderson, Selinda Janeen, Thanugi Wanniarachchi and Filzah Farouk set a new meet record in the event clocking 50.50 seconds.
Javelin thrower Krishmithaa Manivannan of Lyceum Wattala set a new meet record in the javelin throw with 27.22m throw in the under-20 girls event while Lyceum Wattala under-15 4x100m relay team set a new meet record with 52.9 seconds.
In the boys’ events Gateway under-19 boys 4x100m relay team comprising Asiri Wijesekara, Daham Atapattu, Udesh Ranasinghe and Aqeel Ashraff set a new meet record with an impressive time of 43.3 seconds while Lyceum Wattala boys under-20 4x100m team set a new meet record with 45.0 seconds.
In the hurdles, Shanaka Perera of Lyceum Wattala clocked 15.1 seconds in the under-20 110m hurdles to set a new meet record while long jumper Shem Domeeniyas also from Lyceum International School set a new meet record with a leap of 6.91m in the boys under-20 long jump.
Lyceum International School Wattala lead the point tally at the end of second day with a staggering 891 points while Gateway College Colombo is in second place with 605 points. Lyceum International School Nugegoda is in the third place with 448 points.
