NISS GETS 62 MILLION TO BOOST COACHING
|National Institute of Sports Science (NISS) has given a financial boost to their coaching development program organized by the Sports Ministry allocating Rs. 62 million for their projects to be carried out this year.
Projects include building a research centre, providing overseas training for talented coaches in the country as well as bringing down foreign coaches and they have already sent a group of the country’s top long distance coaches to Kenya for training.
Sajith Jayalal, the director of the NISS as well as top middle and long distance coach said they have several projects that are to be carried out during this year to develop coaching standards in the country and they will be financing overseas training of coaches and encourage the athletics association as well as other associations to come up with programs to educate their coaches and promised funds through NISS.
Former Kenyan national coach Dan Muchoki who also worked earlier as South Africa’s coaching director will come to Sri Lanka following an invitation by NISS. Initially he will be here on a two week program and Jayalal invited AASL and Sports Ministry to closely monitor his work and if satisfied get his services for a longer period as Sri Lanka presently does not have a coaching director or a National coach.
