Sri Lanka’s female Marathon sensation Hiruni Wijayaratne who lives in USA shared her thoughts with ‘Ceylon Athletics’ following her record breaking Eugene Marathon win where she had wonderful advice to the younger generation about staying postie and going for the goals despite multiple set backs which have to face by anyone in their lives .

“Never give up , I had lot of opportunities that went the wrong way or did not turn up the way that I wanted to .some injuries that came up in the university even at the high school level. You just have to wake up everyday determined to make your dream come true.There going to be miss-opportunities,there going to be races that you wanted to go but you might not be able to go to .You just have to continue to put one foot forward in front of other and eventually you will reach your goal . stay positive ” said Hiruni

The 27 year old still holds Sri Lanka record for mile,5km , 10km, and half marathon which set in 2014 and was set sight for IAAF World Championship in 2015 and Rio Olympics year after but couldn’t achieved those dreams. but this year determined athlete came hard at Eugene Marathon clocking 2 hours 43 minutes and 31 seconds which is withing IAAF World Championship qualification mark get that elusive mark .

The proud mother of Hiruni , Savi Wijayaratne took the opportunity to give her blessing for her daughter and her amazing performance.

“I feel honor to write few words here as her mother. Yes !! very true this girl never gave up. Snow, ice , rain, windy or sunshine she ran every single day. Hiru is a perfect example for my life . When she was down she got more stronger and extremely courageous. There were days I saw how much effort she put and it did not go where she thought. Hiru gently came to me and cuddled saying ” mom it’s not my day .. I tried but may be I did not give everything , but I know your still proud of me” I adore you very much Hiru and all the best to bring pride to our beautiful mother land??.
