Official Blunders ruins Asmika’s Golden hope in Asian Youth ?
|Official blunder and uncommon rule had resulted in 2000m Steeple Chase runner Asmika Herath being disqualified from participating for the event even though she is the favourite to win the gold medal at the ongoing Asian Youth Athletics Championship Bangkok.
The Meet rules set down by officials had stated that an athlete cannot compete in two events which are above 2000m steeplechase in track events in the meet and her name is not included in the entry list for the event.

AASL clearly had not noticed this rule as they have entered Asmika for both 3000m and 2000m steeple chase and organizers had yesterday notified SL team that Asmika is not eligible to run the 2000m steeple chase today as she ran 3000m earlier that too without finishing.
yet some of the athletes already had competed in both 3000m and 1500m during the meet and SL team will be questioned organizers tomorrow regarding double standards and will push for entry of Asmika.
Asmika has personal best of 6 minutes 59.96 seconds in the 2000m steeple chase while meet record of the event is 7 minute 01.06 seconds where Asmika has a clear edge for Gold medal if she compete at her best .Also AASL had advice Asmika’s coach Janith to focus on 2000m steeple chase rather than 3000m but Coach had insisted that he wants Asmika to do the both events.
Nevertheless if organizers stick to their decisions there will be more than a dozen athletes who will disqualified from competing creating havoc in the meet .
