Dinesh wins World Silver at London
Para Javelin thrower Dinesh Priyantha Herath sealed a Silver medal at the World Para Athletics Championship continued at London Friday. Competing from the F46 category Herath threw 57.93m in the event to win the Silver medal just below Indian Sundar Gurjar who seal the Gold medal .
Soldier Herath from the Gajaba Regiment has a disability in his left hand following a terrorist attack in Kilinochchi back in 2009, and since then has taken up the sport. After taken up sports Herath went on to win Country’s second Paralympic medal in Rio last year sealing bronze medal with distance of 58.23m .
Priyantha is now trained under renowned coach Pradeep Nishantha who is also the coach of Olympian Sumedha Ranasinghe and present National Champion Waruna Lakshan. The 30-year-old Herath hailing from Ipalogama, is a father of two was promoted to Sargent position last year at Army after his Paralympic medal .
Anther Sri Lankan athlete Amara Indumathi had a very late start in the 200m as she could not advance forward.
