Navodya and Thathsarani finished in 5th place at CYG
|Two 400m hurdlers , Navodya Sankalpa and Kavindya Thathsarani finished in disappointing 5th position in the girls and boys finals at the Commonwealth youth Games 2017 concluded at Bahamas yesterday (23) .
Sankalpa the Asian youth Bronze medalist clocked 54.18 seconds in the event which won by Alaztair Charlmers with time of 51..22 seconds . He earlier clocked 53.72 seconds at Diyagama when he achieved the qualification standards for the IAAF World Youth but opted out from the Championship to compete in the Commonwealth youth Games where he had better chance for a medal . Thathsarani clocked 01 minutes 02.77 seconds in the race to finished fifth which won by Johnelle Thomas of Jamaica with time of 59.4 seconds.
Earlier in the Championship hurdler Sheshan Kariyawasam finished in 4th place in the 110m hurdle boys finals with personal best of 13.93 seconds. Sprinter Sachini Divyanjali qualified for the semi-finals in 100m but could not advance there on wards as she finished seventh in semis while 400m runner Sandumini Chaviprabhavi Bandara could not advance from the heats.
