Indunil and Gayanthika to compete at Asian Indoor Games today
|Six Sri Lankan athletes took the wings to little spoken destination of Ashgabat , Turkmenistan for the Asian Indoor and Martial Art games where only three of them has previous experience in competing in an indoor venue .
Team comprised of veteran High Jumper Manjula Kumara Wijesekara , Sprinter Himasha Eashan and Middle Distance runner Indunil Herath who have previously competed at indoor championship while middle distance runner Gayanthika Abeyrathne , Triple Jumper Vidusha Lakshani and Long Jumper Amila Jayasiri will make their indoor debut at the event. They were accompanied by Veteran coach of Gayanthika Abeyrathne Sajith Jayalal who is also the Director at the National Institute of Sports Science(NISS).
Nevertheless all six of them are prime medal hope for Sri Lanka specially given their recent performance.
Two 800m runners who won Gold medal at Asian Grand Prix earlier this year , Indunil and Gayanthika will be the first ones to be in action today as the meet kick off . Indunil will compete in his heat at 9.45am while Gayanthika will compete at 10.25am .
