Arunasiri finished 10th with PB at Asian Marathon – Rajasekara goes to 11th from 5
|Marathoner Pradeep Arunasiri excelled in his first International outing as he finished in 10th place with personal best at the Asian Marathon Championship concluded at Dongguan,China.
Arunasiri, trained under Veteran coach Sajith Jayalal clocked 2 hours 20 minutes and 58 seconds to finish in 10th position.
The race was won by Indian Gopi Thonakal who clocked 2:15.48 seconds where Uzbekistan’s Petrov Andrey(2:15.51 sec ) and Mongolian Tseveenravdan Byambajav (2:16.14 sec) finished second and third
Meanwhile Olympian Marathoner Niluka Geethani Rajasekara dipped in 6 position from his last Asian Marathon outing as she finished 11th place with 2 hours 47 minutes 43 seconds.
Rajasekara finished 5th with personal best 2 hours 40 minutes 07 seconds in early 2015 at the Asian Marathon Championship when she qualified for the IAAF World Championship as well as the Rio Olympics 2016 .
But since she partway with her former coach ,Jayalal she has failed to match the early success in her Marathon Career as she had disappointing 2016 and her best time since then been 2:47.23 seconds which clocked in Netherland early this year. At she has identified her husband as her coach who was facilitated to tour with her for the Asian Marathon by Ministry of Sports.
The Race was won by Kim Hye Gyong of North Korea (2:28.52 sec) followed by Keiko Nogami of Japan and Jo Un Ok also from North Korea finished second and third.
