Rumeshika clocks seasonal best in Sydney
|Sprinter Rumeshika Rathnayake once again renewed her seasonal best time clocking 11.70 seconds in the 100m and 23.70 seconds in the 200m at the Sydney Open last Saturday.
Rumeshika competing in the SOPAC all comers meet in Sydney Olympic Park clocked these times in the finals. She won the 100m and finished second in the 200m behind Jessica Thornton who won in 23.54 seconds.The Asian Championship Silver medallist wasn’t originally included in the SL team for the Commonwealth Games, as she did not compete in the selection trials and did not submit any competition time before the selection deadline for AASL given by National Olympic Committee, but was later included in the Commonwealth team by National selectors way after the said deadline for AASL by NOC.
The sprinter who is training in Sydney, Australia, though continuing to increase her seasonal best over the weeks, is yet to produce her very best, which she showcased during the Asian Championship last year.
