Stubborn AASL again appoints Anil as the Junior Manager
|Despite huge criticism and ongoing Sports Ministry inquiry, stubborn Athletics Association (AASL) once again named controversial ‘Mis-Manager’ Anil Weerasinghe as the Manager of the Sri Lanka Junior Athletics team. This was after National newspapers as well as National television pointed out the lack of managing ability of Weerasinghe throughout last week, which led to huge embarrassment as well as discomfort for athletes just before the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship.
Weerasinghe’s poor management skills were evident last Friday, where the SL team was without water and electricity for nearly 12 hours since 10.00 in the morning. Sports Minister had to intervene and transfer the athletes to a nearby hotel. The Manager had not taken any measures to give a solution until then.
The latest and many previous incidents led Sports Ministry to appoint Saman Amarasinghe to conduct an inquiry into Weerasinghe’s behaviour, which has created a great deal of embarrassment for AASL and the Sports Ministry, where Sports Minister even had to temporarily suspend the Director General of Sports Bhuwaneka Herath.
