Hiruni shatters 15 year-old 10000m Sri Lanka record

US based Sri Lankan Distance runner ,Hiruni Wijayaratne clocked improved 33 minutes 55.06 seconds in the 10000m at the Portland track festival Oregon as she set a new Sri Lanka record in the event .

Doing so she shattered the long standing SL record of 33:57.96 seconds set by Sujeewa Nilmini Jayasena  15 years ago in 2003 . Hiruni the SL Marathon and half marathon record holder had represented Sri Lanka in IAAF World Championship in London 2017 and Commonwealth Games earlier this year.
“I’m very excited to erase long standing 10K NR. I Would love to compete at 10000m at Asian Games if possible”said Hiruni after the race
