SL lads set to bring back the 400m’s GLORY (VIDEO)
|SRI LANKA HAS PRODUCED HAND FULL OF QUARTER MILERS FROM THE PAST.
Quarter mile has been Sri Lanka’s strong suit when it’s come to male sprinting.
Over the years Sri Lanka has produce several top 400m runners.
List includes likes of Sugath Thilakarathne who once even beat the great Michal Johnson clocking sub 45 seconds.
Together with Rohan Pradeep Kumara, Prasanna Amarasekara, Ranga Wimalawansha and Rohitha Pushpakumara Sri Lanka has been formidable 4x400m team when it’s come to Asian Games.
SL last track and field medal of Asian Games came in 4x400m relay in 2006 when Ashoka jayasundara, Rohan Pradeep Kumara,Prasanna Amarasekara and Rohitha Pushpakuamra produce the bronze medal .
This time it will up to new age quarter milers lead by 19 year old Asian Junior Gold medalist Aruna Darshana who became SL’s first sub 46 seconds runner in 12 years.
He will be team up with likes of Kalinga Kumarage , Dilip Ruwan , Ajith Premakumara, Pasindu Kodikara and Tharusha Dhananjaya whome all had clocked under 47 seconds in this year.
Junior 4x400m team reminisce of SL’s old glory winning Asian Junior 4x400m gold medal in emphatic fashion at Japan last June .
In August it will be up to seniors to make the mark.
