Iron Man Ajith set new Sri Lanka record in Decathlon
Ajith Karunathilaka, the iron man of Sri Lanka collected a staggering 7,356 points in Decathlon , the second time he cleared the 7,000 points mark to renew his own Sri Lanka record of 7096 points last year . Sugandhi meanwhile collected 4,906 points to set the new Sri Lanka record. Ajith was visibly in pain when he ran the last event , 1500m but did manage to run it under 5 minutes which was needed to set the New Sri Lanka record.
The qualification mark asked for Asian Games from Decathlon was 7300 points which Ajith did achieve but he was too late to achieve that as the entry was closed on 30th June for Asian Games which will start in two weeks time in Indonesia .
He has improved his perfromance in Long Jump , Shot Put , High Jump , 400M , 110m Hurdle and Javelin throw when its coming to new SL record but had failed to match his previous bests in Pole Vault and 1500m
