AASL appeals on behalf of Nirmali and Nadeesha

The Athletic Association will appeal to the National Olympic Committee to include Nadeesha Ramanayaka and Nirmali Madushika in the Asian Games squad after they finished first and second at the National Championship clocking personal bests of 53.30 seconds and 53.55 seconds respectively.

With the disappointing outing of 100m athletes, the 1500m runner Hemantha Kumara and High Jumper Ushan Thiwanka, the athletic team for the Asian Games will be reduced to 15. They were earlier given a quota of 20 plus athletes.

Hence, AASL will request for the addition of the two female 400m runners to the squad. This will allow Sri Lanka to run in the women’s 4x400m, as well as the mixed 4x400m races with their top athletes.

Sri Lanka has an advantage to win a Silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay and also has a good women’s 4x400m team with the inclusion of these athletes and the AASL is desperate to add them.
