Ultra marathoner Sanath Bandara who is popularly known as ‘Guinness Bandara’ for his penchant for attempting Guinness World Records will aim at establishing three Guinness World records in Perth over the weekend.

“I will try to establish three Guinness World Records this time. I am confident that I can achieve all three,” Bandara told The Island in a telephone interview from Perth on Wednesday. Bandara will attempt the fastest barefoot 50 mile run on a synthetic track, the fastest barefoot 100km run on synthetic track and the fastest 12 hour barefoot run on synthetic track at the Bunbury & Districts Little Athletics Centre, Hay Park Arena, Perth.

Bandara who has been on duty leave from Sri Lanka Navy for two years now will commence his attempt at 6 p.m. on Saturday. A victim of Weliveriya bomb blast, Bandara tried his luck at ultra marathons (hundred milers) and also tried to establish Guinness World Records on several occasions. IN 2011 Bandara wore 257 T-Shirts in a time of 48 minutes and three seconds to establish a record. He also tried unsuccessfully to establish a record by running the longest distance continuously for 24 hours on a treadmill. Asked as to how he has prepared for the record Bandara said ” I ran the Gold Coast 50 mile race in July and was placed second and during recent weeks I have been training barefoot for the record.”
