Youth star Parami wins 15km Road Race with less than a month to go for Youth Olympics
|There is less than a month left for the Youth Olympic Games in Brussels but that did not stop the Asian Junior Gold medalist steeple chase runner Parami Wasanthi from taking to the road to run a 15km Road Race when she won the all Island School Games, at Kuliyapitiya on Friday.
Wasanthi hailing from the Kuliyapitiya Central College is Sri Lanka’s top medal hope for the 2000m steeple chase in the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina starting on 6th of October. She became the number one in Asia for the event and she has clocked a better time during the Asian trials, than last year’s gold medalist at the Youth Olympics.
Her training partner Asmika Herath finished second while Dilrukshi Samarakoon of Welimada CC finished third.
The boy’s 15km race was won by Eranga Nayanajith of the President College Ambagasduwa, while his school mate Chaminda Kumara won second place. Kavishka Silva of Bandaranayaka MV Payagala finished third.
There were also two boys’ and girls’ 5km race held along with the main event.

3rd Place – G.V Kavishka Eranga Silva, Bandaranayaka M.V Payagala

1st place – K.M Parami Wasanthi, Kuliyapitiya Central
2nd place – H.M.B.A Herath, Kuliyapitiya Central
3rd Place – P.G.N Dilrukshi Samarakoon, Welimada M.V
