No connection to Chelsea, Works only with Vimukthi – Mr. Nishantha Wijayamanne

Nutritionist Nishantha Wijayamanne said he has no connection to young athlete Chelsea Melani as Ceylon Athletics had reported earlier and he only provides advice on nutrition for athletes who train under Vimukthi de Soyza. That includes 400m runner Kalinga Kumarage who was tested positive for doping.

Kalinga’s urine sample which was collected during the end of 2018’s Army Athletics Championship was tested positive for anabolic steroids -‘Chlorodehydromethyltestosterone’ (Brand name – Oral Turinabol).

18 year old School girl Chelsea Melani too tested positive for anabolic steroids from samples which were collected during the National Sports Festival 2018 in Polonnaruwa.

Chelseas’ parents denied the use of the banned substance while they suspected an injection which she took for medical reasons that might have caused the positive results. Chelseas’ coach Suresh also denied any knowledge of using the banned substance.

Sri Lanka Anti Doping Agency has not yet released the name of the anabolic steroids which was detected in Chelsea yet.

But Ceylon Athletics learns that it’s the same substance which was used by many international athletes who was tested positive for banned substance including former Russian 800m Olympic Gold medalist ‘Mariya Savinova . She was eventually stripped off her medals.

Initial inquiry for Chelsea will be held  where she will have to state how she will plead on the doping charges.
