Lyceum Wattala take early lead in ISAC
|Hurdlers Janitha Abeysinghe and Tharushi Fernando of Lyceum International School Wattala and Panadura respectively excelled in high hurdles as nine records were set at the 19th International Schools Athletics Championship (ISAC) which commenced at Sugathdasa Stadium on Friday.
The championship sees 25 international schools that are members of The International Schools of Sri Lanka (TISSL) competing for glory.
Tharushi Fernando showcased her potential as a promising prospect for the future as she excelled in the 100M Hurdles Under-18 Girls’ event.
She clocked an impressive time of 17.00 sec in the event, which was a new meet record. Abeysinghe was the fastest male hurdler of the day, clocking a record 15.91 seconds in the Boys’ Under-20 100M Hurdles.
Events on the opening day started off at 1:00 p.m. with 15 finals being worked out. Defending Champions Lyceum International School Wattala were leading the medals tally with six Gold, five Silver and one Bronze while Lyceum Panadura was in second place with four Gold and four Bronze medals. Gateway Colombo was in third place with two Gold, two Silver and three Bronze medals.
The competition’s opening ceremony will be held today (16th) at 8:00 a.m. with the Managing Director of Gateway College, Rohini Alles gracing the occasion as Chief Guest, together with the Directors and Principals of all the participating institutions.
