Decathlete Ajith to compete in India at Federation Cup
|Decathlon Sri Lanka record holder, Ajith Karunathilak will compete at the forthcoming Federation cup in India to be held from March 15 to 18 at Patiala.
Ajith has been renewing Sri Lanka record of Decathlon several times during past few years as he took the Decathlon in Sri Lanka to a new height . He was first Sri Lankan athlete to pass 7000 Points mark, a feat he achieved in 2017 . Last year he set his career best achieving 7356 points during the National Championship but was unfortunate not to get in to Asian Games team as cut off date for entry was already passed by the time,.
Since neither first or second Sri Lankan trials consist of the Decathlon , AASL has given the chance Ajith to compete in India during the Federation cup and if he can at least replicate his performance in 2018 AASL will consider him for the team selection. Earlier AASL published qualifying standards of 7400 points for Decathlon to get in to the Asian championship team .
