Hiruni chases WC qualification in Düsseldorf Marathon

The US-based Sri Lankan Marathoner Hiruni Wijeyarathne will compete in the Düsseldorf Marathon 2019 in Germany eying to clock IAAF World Championship qualification time on Sunday (28th )
The Marathon will start on 1.00PM SL time where Hiruni will have to run close to her own National record of 2:36.35 set in January last year if she to qualify for the world championship as the qualification times have made tougher for this year’s edition.
The Marathon will see 20,000 runners competing for the glory in the German city  Dusseldorf where the city expects more than 400,000 spectators. Also, there will be 40 bands playing in 20 different location and 1500 volunteers have been called on to work. The event will also include a kids cup and half marathon.
Hiruni stated the year clocking her second fastest half marathon time by a Sri Lankan female runner when she finished third in the Mesa-Phoenix half marathon held in Arizona, USA earlier this year.
She clocked 01 hours 14.19 seconds behind Brittney Feivor (1:13.16 seconds) and Rosie Edwards (1:14.13 seconds), her second-best timing in this event.
Hiruni is the Sri Lanka record holder of both the marathon and half marathon has represented Sri Lanka at the IAAF World Championship 2017, Commonwealth Games 2018 and Asian Games 2018 and will now be chasing qualifying standards for the forthcoming IAAF World Championship 2019 and 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
