A CRACKER OF WOMEN’S 100M ON CARDS IN ROME
|The women’s 100m set to be a cracker at the Rome Diamond league on Thursday, June 6th where eight top sub 11 seconds runners on the block.
Field includes reigning Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson of Jamaica, World Championship Silver medalist Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Ivory Coast , world leader of 200m, Dina Asher-Smith from Great Britain , US Champion and Shanghai Diamond league winner Aleia Hobbs, Rio Olympic Gold medal winning relay runner English Gardner and US 200m champion Janne Prandini all from United States .

Elaine Thompson
Thompson had a busy season so far as she competed in Shanghai Diamond league, Stockholm Diamond league and World Challenge in Nanjing all within May while she took a trip back to Jamaica after Nanjing to compete in Jamaica All-comers meet before returning to Stockholm three days later. She won the Nanjing World challenge 200m with a time of 22.40 second and lowered it to 22.66 seconds in Stockholm to place second. In 100M she had a disastrous race in Shanghai placing third with modest 11.14 seconds where the reigning Olympic Champion will be eager to get back into sub 11 seconds for the season. Her seasonal best for 100m is 11.09 seconds which she ran little over a week ago in Jamaica.
Dina Asher Smith
Dina Asher-Smith meanwhile was well rested between events as she only competed in Doha diamond league on May 30 and then Stockholm diamond league on May 30, winning both events with world lead timing and beating both world and Olympic champions. She is presently ranked number 02 in the world from 100m and Rome will be her 100m seasonal debut. Judging by the form, Asher-Smith is the hot favorite to win the event on Thursday night.
Aleia Hobbs
Aleia Hobbs had an amazing debut to the Diamond league as she beat the reigning Olympic Champion Elaine Thompson to win the 100m at Shanghai with the time of 11.03 seconds. Hobbs had a successful season so far as she anchored USA Women’s 4x100m to the Gold medal at World relays in Yokohama before winning the Diamond league and she is well rested since without any major competition and will be eyeing to keep her winning streak going in Rome too. The 23-year-old US Champion clocked 10.85 seconds personal best last year with the perfect wind of +2.0 and will be eyeing to lower it down this year.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou
The experienced campaigner from Ivory Coast had her best season in professional life in 2017, winning Silver medals in both 100m and 200M at the World Championship in London. The 30-year-old with a personal best of 10.85 seconds for the 100M is ranked World’s number one in 100m and is yet to compete at a major 100m event for this year. She started the year with indoor competitions where she won the gold medal in Düsseldorf and Liévin.
