SRI LANKA WIN TWO SILVER AND TWO BRONZE MEDALS AT ASIAN GP-1ST LEG
|Sri Lanka finished with two Silver and two bronze medals in the Asian Grand Prix first leg held at Jiangjin, China on Tuesday.
Gayanthika Abeyrathne took the lead after first round of 800m eyeing for that elusive gold medal but Nimali Liyanarachchi, as usual, came from behind to bring out customary sprint towards the end to the front but Kazakhstan’s Margarita Mukasheva came hard in the last stretch to win the Gold medal clocking 2:02.97 seconds leaving Nimali for the Silver medal .
Gayanthika satisfied with a silver medal for 2:3.17 seconds. Gayanthika finished third for the bronze medal with 2:03.59 seconds.
In the women’s 400m, Nadeesha Ramanayaka able to win a silver medal after hard-fought final stretch clocking 53.24 seconds. Guo Xilan of China won the gold medal with 52.63 seconds while Yan Tihang of Vietnam 53.29 seconds.
The other bronze medal was won by Olympian Javelin Thrower Sumedha Ranasinghe with a distance of 76.92m.
