South African sprinter tests positive for banned substance
|South African sprinter and national record holder, Carina Horn has been suspended from competing, following doping allegations levelled against her.
Horn is famous for becoming the first South African woman to dip below 11 seconds in the 100m, a feat she achieved in Doha in 2018.
A little over a week before returning to the Qatari capital for the IAAF World Championships, it’s been revealed that she will take no part in the prestigious competition.
According to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), Horn has been suspended for allegedly using banned substances – Ibutamoren and LGD-4033 – and has been issued with a notice of allegation by the body.
“The AIU confirms a Provisional Suspension against South African sprinter Carina Horn for the Presence of a Prohibited Substance, a violation of the IAAF Anti-Doping Rules,” the AIU revealed via Twitter on Monday.
