“The Asian Athletics Association confirms that the Asian Junior Athletics Championships have been cancelled. As a result, the selection trials for the Asian Junior Athletics Championships scheduled for 8 & 9 April, 2020 is postponed indefinitely due to the prevailing situation in the country. Athletics Association of Sri Lanka is making a request to the Asian AA to conduct the Championships toward end of 2020. Further, the trials scheduled for the same dates for the Tokyo Olympics are also cancelled” stated a press release by AASL on Friday (13th).
Meanwhile, fitness trials of the junior National pool which were to be held on 22 March too have been postponed.
This is the second year where AASL were compelled to either postpone or cancel many of their events. Several athletics championships had to be postponed last year following the Easter Sunday bomb attack and were later crammed into a tight schedule and held every weekend.
