Cuban coaches to work for free until AG trials
|Despite several backlashes, Cuban coaches Luis Miranda and Sergio Manuel, proved they are not here just for the money as they offered to work for free until the Asian Games trials in April, despite the Sports Ministry refusing to fund them.
Earlier Ceylon Today revealed about the shameful coup where a group of incompetent local coaches and ex athletes with questionable past, together with Ministry officials with conflict of interests, got together and made several attempts to send these coaches away out of pure jealousy, despite several National athletes and the Athletics Association requesting their services.
The Sports Ministry’s decision to terminate their services in December with just four months to go for the Asian Games trials in April, put several top national athletes in a dilemma with nowhere to go for training, where the Ministry did not take input from the Athletics Association or dozens of national athletes who trained under them.
Athletes fought hard to retain their coaches and made several requests through the Athletics Association, and even wrote to the Sports Ministry with all performance evaluation about how they improved since the arrival of the foreign coaches, especially Luis Miranda, who took jumping events to another level.
Nevertheless, the Sports Ministry did not change their decision. However, these Coaches didn’t want to leave the athletes midway, since they had already undertaken the responsibility of getting them ready for the Asian Games, and have now offered to work for free until the trials in April.
“As coaches, we are always working hard to instill leadership and good ethics into all that we look after. We make sure we understand and support athletes who want to do their best without judgment, gratuity or satisfaction”, said Luis Miranda.
“Cuban Coaches work for love and not just for money, and we educate athletes to be good people,” said Sergio Manuel of his athletes, after the matter was resolved.
