Ushan, Danushka impress in Texas
|US based long jumper Danushka Sandaruwan leaped a wind aided 8.10m on Saturday to finish third at the Texas Relay. The 28-year-old former Nalandian leaped 8.05 (+2.8 m/s) in his third attempt, and bettered it with a leap of 8.10m (+3.4 m/s) in his fourth attempt. With a personal best of 7.99m, Sandaruwan represented Sri Lanka at the 2019 Asian Championship and later left to the USA for higher studies.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka High Jump record holder Ushan Thiwanka leaped 2.27m in the same competition to finish second. Ushan cleared 2.24m with his first attempt, and 2.27m in his second attempt, then failed to clear 2.30m which is his personal best and National record height which he set last year.
Thiwanka has already achieved qualification standards for the Asian and Commonwealth Games, which is 2.25m.
