Yupun breaks 200m South Asian Record
|Olympian sprinter Yupun Abeykoon once again stunned the arena as he clocked 20.37 seconds in the 200m setting a new Sri Lanka as well as South Asian record at the XII Castiglione International Meeting in Italy yesterday.
Yupun broke the Sri Lanka record of 20.68 sec set by Vinoj Suranjaya de Silva in 2018. He also shattered the South Asian record of 20.52 sec set by India’s Amlan Borgohain last month. His time was also recorded as a new meet record.
The Italian based sprinter who clocked a wind aided 10.04 seconds just a few days ago in the 100m, returned to the 200m individual event after a while, his prime focus being the 100m during the last few years.
He holds the Sri Lanka and South Asian record for the 100m with a time of 10.13 seconds.
