Tharushi and Lekamge qualify for Paris Olympics
|Middle-distance runner Tharushi Karunarathne and javelin thrower Dilhani Lekamge have secured their qualification for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympic Games based on World Athletics rankings. The qualification period concluded on 30 June, and recent updates have now confirmed their participation.
Karunarathne, the gold medalist at both the Asian Championship and Asian Games, secured the 45th position in the rankings, placing her within the top 48 athletes eligible for the 800m event. Meanwhile, Dilhani Lekamge achieved the highest ranking among Sri Lankan athletes, currently positioned at 26th, with 32 athletes set to be selected.
Aruna Darshana remains in the 51st position, awaiting the outcome on the 4th to determine if he will break into the top 48, should any of the three athletes above him withdraw.
