Wasanthi won Gold at Youth Olympics trials , now ranked number 01 in the world

Asian Junior Gold Medalist steeple chase runner Wasanthi Marisstella stun with sizzling 6 minutes 35. 20 seconds in the 2000m Steeple Chase as she finished first in the youth Olympic Asian trials to  seal his place in the Youth Olympic games and ranked number one  in the world in the event.

France’s Claire Palou was on top of the world under 18 2000m steeple chase list with 6 minutes 35.80 seconds and Marisstella clocked five second better than that time to seal top of the world position at Bangkok. her training mate Asmika Herath placed third in the event.

Earlier in the year despite been just 17 year old , fisherman’s daughter hailing from Kuliyapitiya CC won the Asian Junior championship Gold medal competing with under 20 athletes and also qualified for the IAAF World junior championship to be held in Finland next week .

Earlier in the championship another Sri Lankan runner Dilan Bogoda won the 400m with time of 48.58 seconds and qulified for the youth Olympics.
