Scholarship for Matara Athletes by ex Matara athletes in Australia

12 young promising athletes of Matara District were awarded and enrolled to a scholarship programme at  Uyanwatta Grounds Matara today (14th) through which they will be benefited for the next 6-12 months duration.

“This is a great initiative by former athletes of Matara district who currently live and work abroad (Australia based) including our very own Olympian Mr Manjula Kumara Wijesekara with the aim of motivating and facilitating young generation to achieve higher in their career.” said Matara District Athletics Association headed by Dr. Lal ekanayake in a statement .

“As the Matara District Athletics Association we would like to convey our heart felt gratitude towards everyone who joined hands to form this fund and the programme which was a timely requirement.”

“We will be ever grateful for your invaluable contribution for the development of Matara Athletics.

Also we would like to thank Mr Tharindu Dananjaya Alwis and Mr Sameera Rajapaksha for taking immense effort in coordinating this programme so our deserving young athletes are benefited.

Parallel to the scholarships awarding, coaches were donated with several pairs of spikes shoes by Mr Priyantha, the owner of Sports Zone Matara.”
