Sri Lanka sends Five Athletes for Korean Open C’ship
A team of five athletes and coach will leave the island on Friday (23) for the Korean Open Athletics Championship to be held in Incheon.
The team includes Pole Vaulter Ishara Sandaruwan who missed out on the Asian qualification standard, even though he was able to renew his own SL record of 5.11m at the worn-out track of Diyagama.
His coach Sanath Gunarathne will make the trip as Manager cum Coach.
“I did miss out from Asian qualification but hoping to make a real impact at this Championship,” said a determined Sandaruwan. He last competed at an International Championship back in February 2016 and sealed the Gold medal at the South Asian Games, as well as set the South Asian Record at the event.
The rest of the team includes long jumper Mohammad Mifran, High Jumper A.K. Pathirana who cleared 2.18m at the last trial, 200m runner H.S.S. Kumara and 110m hurdler Lakshika Sugandhi.
