Nilani Rathnayake is a Sri Lankan athlete who excelled in 3000m Steeple Chase . She holds the Sri Lanka record of the Steeple Chase which she set in 2017 for the second time.
Hailing from Sumana Balika Vidayala Rathnapura , Rathnayake won two bronze medals in 1500m and 5000m in the South Asian Games 2016( There was no 3000m steeple chase at the Game). Rathnayake trained by Sajith Jayalal (Director of the National Institute of Sports Science and former deputy director general of Sports) started 2017 by shattering her own record in the 3000m steeple chase at the first selection trials held in Diyagama, Colombo.
