Video: Zango Flies 17.58m in Triple Jump at Meeting de Paris
Burkina Faso triple jumper Hugues Fabrice Zango highlighted the 2019 Meeting de Paris with a huge leap of 17.56m to win the men’s triple jump on Sunday, January 27.
During the semifinal round, Zango and Cuban “super talent” Jordan Diaz jumped 16.59m and 17.19m respectively to earn the only two spots to compete in the Final A.
The 18-year-old World Junior Champion, Diaz, in the Final A was not able to improve his mark as he jumped 16.58m. Zango, on the other hand, managed to smash his personal best by 35 centimeters with a monster leap of 17.58m.
Zango’s 17.58m performance is a new World lead, new Burkina Faso record, and a new African record.
The 2017 world champion Sam Kendricks prevailed in the pole vault with a World leading 5.84m
The men’s 60m had a dramatic finish as Gue-Arthur Cisse of Ivory Coast and Ghanaian Sean Safo Atntwi clocked equal time to the thousandth of a second. Both athletes shared top spot with 6.60.
Orlando Ortega won the 60m hurdles in 7.63, just 0.01 ahead of Aurel Manga.
Decathlon World record holder Kevin Mayer competed in two events. He clocked 7.81 in the 60m hurdles, his second-best performance ever, and cleared 5.35m in the pole vault.
More than 7000 spectators attended the meeting at Accors Hotel Arena in Paris.
