Who is Julien Alfred? New Fastest Woman in the World
|Saint Lucia is currently celebrating a historic gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics and it comes in one of the biggest events on the programme.
Julien Alfred obliterated the competition in the Women’s 100m final, beating the very prominent Sha’Carri Richardson from the United States of America who still managed to bag the silver medal.
It was no secret that Alfred would be among the contenders for gold, but she made it look easy by posting a 10.72 to Richardson’s 10.87. Melissa Jefferson got bronze for the USA.
Who is Julien Alfred?
Julien Alfred now gets the honor of having won Saint Lucia’s first-ever medal at the Olympics.
Born in 2001 in Ciceron, the 23-year-old had a tough start to life as she lost her father at the age of 12. She attended high school in both Saint Lucia and then in Jamaica when she was a little older.
She then went to the University of Texas during the 2018-19 academic year and that is where she studied Youth and Community Studies.
Until this point, her career crowning moment was winning the gold medal at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in the women’s 60m.
She also got a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in the 100m races.
Whilst those are all superb achievements, they pale in comparison to being the 100m Olympic Champion, but that is exactly what she has become.
Being 23 years old, Alfred is now expected to be a contender for many Olympics to come and her success could help to bolster the Olympic programme of Saint Lucia, helping to bring through other successful athletes in the future.
