Video: SL boys 4x400m team in to the finals of world juniors; Girls fails
|Men’s 4x400m relay team finished third in the heat and qualified for the finals of the IAAF World Junior Championship continued at Finland.
The team which comprise the 400m sensation Aruna Darshana , Pasindu Kodikara , Ravishka Indrajith and Pabasara Niku clocked 03 minutes 08.88 seconds and finished third in the third heat as they advanced to the finals .
The Sri Lankans had a tough heat which included Canada , USA and France , all three who has better time than SL in the relay . In Fact both Canada and USA had multiple sub 46 seconds runners in this championship. Yet SL managed to finish third even though they had problems with their laps with Pabasara Niku once again falling short of his usual performance in the second leg.
SL team won the gold with ease in both Asian Juniors and South Asian Juniors while SL had sub 46 runner in Aruna and sub 47 seconds runner in Pasindu Kodikara .Both Pabasara Niku and Ravishka Indrajith had clocked sub 48 seconds in 400m and all four quarter milers had qualified for the world juniors in individual 400m even though they did not take part in the event focusing on the relay.
Pasindu Kodikara ran starting lap of the the relay followed by Raishka Indrajith in the second lap, Pabasara Niku in the third and Aruna in the anchor leg.
Meanwhile SL Women team failed to advance to the finals. They competed without their regular second lap runner Sachini Divyanjali who was down with fever. Dilshi Kumarasinghe , Romeshi Attidiya , Sandumini Bandara and Amasha de Silva left to compete the heat which includes both Asian winners , Japan , silver medalist India and likes of Australia and Ukrain .
