Tough Heat for Young Tharushi

Tharushi Karunarathne, who is just 19, faces a formidable challenge as she competes in the 800m at the Paris Olympic Games 2024 today. Among the 8 athletes in her heat, 6 boast seasonal and personal best times of under 2 minutes. Tharushi’s season best stands at 2:04.22, while her personal best is 2:00.66, making her the slowest runner in the heat.

Notably, Jamaica’s Natoya Goule-Toppin holds an impressive personal best of 1:55.96 seconds, and Kenya’s Lilian Odira, ranked 6th in the world, along with USA’s Allie Wilson, ranked 14th globally, are also part of this competitive heat.

Tharushi’s event is scheduled for 8:30 PM today(2) (Paris time), which corresponds to midnight in Sri Lanka.
